On September 16th, Yuefeng New Materials and Huawei Terminal Co., Ltd. jointly applied for the "Invention Patent for a High-Strength and Heat-Resistant Al-Zn-Mg-Cu Aluminum Alloy and Its Preparation Method". This patent was recently made public.
What does this material solve?
7 series aluminum (Al-Zn-Mg-Cu) is the group of industrial deformation aluminum alloys with the highest tensile strength at room temperature. The tensile strength of 7075-T6 is generally in the range of 510 - 570 MPa, and it is known as "aluminum for battle". It is often used in extreme stress areas such as aircraft landing gear and wing panels. However, it has two long-term problems: one is that it tends to soften under high-temperature service, and the other is that it has a high risk of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) - the latter has been regarded as a "technical禁区" by the industry.
According to the patent abstract, this technology optimizes the alloy composition and ratio, and combines the synergistic refining treatment and process optimization of refining agent A and refining agent B to make the material simultaneously have high strength, high heat resistance, and good plasticity. Its key comparison indicators point to "sagging reduction after baking" - the traditional high-strength aluminum alloy has a sagging reduction of 10% - 15% after baking, while this new material significantly outperforms this level; compared with traditional 7 series aluminum alloys, the softening degree under high-temperature conditions is significantly reduced.
The listed applications of this patent include: aerospace structural components, battery trays for new energy vehicles, anti-collision beams, rail transit car bodies, and other occasions with high requirements for material's high-temperature service performance.
Why is Huawei on this list of applicants?
Huawei has a long history of accumulation in metal materials. Public reports show that its titanium-aluminum composite structural component direction's patent layout can be traced back to 2017, and the high-reflective titanium玄武 architecture frame of Mate 70 Pro+ is closely related to this material direction. This patent jointly applied with Haomei falls in the component design and refining process section - this is exactly the underlying capability common to consumer electronics structural components and vehicle high-strength aluminum.
Another clue is more worthy of attention: Yuefeng New Materials is a partner of the HarmonyOS Intelligent Mobility ecosystem, and it was the only aluminum extrusion enterprise on display at the HarmonyOS exhibition area in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Auto Show. It exhibited 7 series aviation-grade aluminum materials such as anti-collision beams, 6 series threshold beams, and high-pressure collapse energy boxes.
The reuse of material capabilities from consumer electronics structural components to body high-strength components is the most notable extension direction of this joint application.
Yuefeng's transformation card
Yuefeng New Materials is located in Wuxi High-tech Zone and is one of the leading domestic enterprises in automotive lightweight aluminum-based new materials. It has formed a complete chain from melting, molds, extrusion to deep processing.
Financial data confirms the speed of structural switching: In 2025, the company's revenue was 7.778 billion yuan, increasing by 16.58% year-on-year, among which the sales revenue of automotive lightweight aluminum profiles and components was 2.281 billion yuan, increasing by 28.56%, with sales volume approximately 89,000 tons; In the first half of 2026, the revenue was 4.144 billion yuan, increasing by 15.60%, and the net profit attributable to the parent company was 810,158,000 yuan. The revenue of automotive lightweight aluminum profiles accounted for 10.75% of the total revenue, and the revenue of industrial aluminum profiles accounted for 43.27%. The terminals cover various brands including Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Toyota, Honda, as well as domestic brands such as GAC, Great Wall, Geely, Chery, and Changan, as well as new automotive enterprises like Xiongpeng, Salehi, NIO, and Xiaomi.
Research and development investment is the foundation: In 2025, the company's research and development investment reached 256 million yuan, increasing by 23%. According to the company's disclosure, it holds 60 invention patents, 261 utility model patents, and has participated in the formulation of 112 industry standards. According to public patent search, Yuefeng has also newly added several alloy patents such as high-performance Al-Mg-Si-Cu alloy and high-strength and toughness 6-series profiles in the recent period. The layout of 7-series materials is not an isolated case.
What does it mean for global buyers?
Firstly, the target of China's aluminum exports is moving upward. In the past, overseas buyers purchased Chinese aluminum mainly based on the accuracy of profile dimensions and price; now, the value is shifting from "processing capacity" to "alloy formula". A patent for heat-resistant 7-series held jointly by a terminal giant and the company itself is a technical endorsement for entering the high-end supply chain.
Secondly, the demand window for high-strength aluminum is opening up. Battery trays are the most realistic scenario for the 7-series aluminum - as early as 2019, Ningde Timeo overcame the stress corrosion problem and achieved the mass production of the lower box of 7-series aluminum battery packs. With the simultaneous improvement of vehicle requirements for weight reduction and crash safety indicators, 7-series materials with both heat resistance and plasticity are expected to become a differentiated purchasing option, but there are no public order data to confirm it yet.
Thirdly, the supply radius is extending overseas. Yuefeng has collaborated with Lingyun Shares to jointly build an automotive parts production base in Morocco. For European and North African buyers, the combination of "Chinese alloy technology + local delivery" is feasible, and the uncertainty of tariffs and logistics has decreased accordingly; however, it should be noted that whether this base will be equipped with Yuefeng's aluminum material supply is not clearly stated in the company's annual report.
For global buyers, tracking the patent disclosures of Chinese aluminum enterprises is becoming as important as researching quotations - because the next material upgrade bonus often appears in the announcements of the National Intellectual Property Administration rather than in the sample books of exhibitions.
