On February 12th, it was reported that the Australian mining company South32 confirmed that it would suspend the operation of the aluminum smelter in Mozambique's Mozal on March 15th.
South32 stated that it will continue to engage in discussions with the government, Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB) and the South African power company Eskom to ensure that "adequate and reasonably priced electricity" can be obtained before the power supply is suspended in March (when the existing agreement expires).
