Indonesia's exports of alumina reached approximately 1.5 million tons in the first quarter of 2026.

According to data from the Indonesian Statistics Bureau, in the first quarter of 2026, Indonesia's aluminum oxide export volume increased by 36% year-on-year to approximately 1.5 million tons, compared to about 1.1 million tons in the same period last year.
Despite a significant increase in export volume, the total export amount dropped significantly due to the decline in global alumina prices. In the first quarter of 2026, the revenue from alumina exports decreased by nearly 28% year-on-year to approximately $513.8 million. Analysts stated that although the demand for refined mineral products in the international market was constantly increasing, the softening of commodity prices led to a decrease in export revenue.
After the Indonesian government imposed restrictions on the export of raw materials, it has been actively expanding the downstream mineral processing industry. The country encourages investment in the construction of alumina refining plants and aluminum smelters in Indonesia to enhance high-value-added production and reduce its reliance on raw material exports.
