According to foreign media reports, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that the plan is to establish several new mining enterprises by 2030 and build a complete production chain, raising the aluminum production from the current 50,000 tons per year to 100,000 tons per year.
Aliyev said on Tuesday at a meeting specifically discussing the implementation of the national mining and metal industry development plan for 2027-2030: "If foreign partners propose favorable suggestions for the development of the aluminum industry, they may also be implemented. The aluminum production must be increased to 100,000 tons!"
Azerbaijan's Minister of Economy, Mikayil Jabbarov, said that Azerbaijan is currently exploring the possibility of establishing a new primary aluminum plant with an annual capacity of approximately 200,000 tons.
Jabbarov added: "One of our long-term goals is to assess the possibility of turning Azerbaijan into a regional strategic mineral processing center. Over the past decade, the prices of some strategic metals have risen significantly, and it is expected that global demand will continue to grow in the next decade. The demand for aluminum is expected to increase by 23%, the demand for copper by 21%, the demand for zinc by 15%, and the demand for gold by 10%."
