Ahmad Al-Alshaikh, executive vice president of Maaden's aluminum business unit, said during the Fastmarkets International Aluminum Conference held in Budapest that the World Cup plans to build 15 new stadiums, and the related construction will drive the demand for aluminum. Alshaikh predicted that by 2030, the annual demand for aluminum in Saudi Arabia would reach at least 1.8 million tons, higher than the current level of about 1 million tons; and the demand could double in the next 5 to 7 years.

Maaden's aluminum business achieved its best quarterly financial performance in history in the second quarter of this year. The company's data released in August showed that the revenue of this business increased by 49% year-on-year to 1.01 billion US dollars. The performance growth benefited from the price increase of aluminum products, with the price rising by 51% year-on-year to 3,915 US dollars per ton in the second quarter; and the output was 242,000 tons.
